About Tooth Extraction:

Why would I need an Extraction?

If your teeth have these conditions you may need an extraction: severely decayed, advanced periodontal disease, broken beyond repair, or impacting other teeth. If a tooth is aligned incorrectly and may need a removal, orthodontic treatment might be a better solution in place of extraction. Talk to your dentist to find the best procedure for your situation.

Why extraction is not the answer?

If the tooth is healthy, but not correctly aligned, teeth extraction, not as expensive as orthodontic treatment, may be more expensive in the end because the neighboring teeth will shift dramatically to replace the deficiency. This can affect talking, chewing, and may even affect the jaw. There is also a possibility that after the teeth compensate for the loss of the tooth, teeth will become more difficult to clean completely which would cause further complications leading to more dental work.

You may want to replace the extracted tooth to prevent this from happening. This would be less expensive in the future.

Get thoroughly examined.

Your dentist must determine if an extraction is the best possible solution to fix your teeth. If the extraction is to difficult, an oral surgeon might be needed to complete the procedure. To determine this, X-rays will need to be taken, or a plaster mold will need to be made to better inform the dentist further action.

Make sure when you consult with your dentist that you include any medical history, excessive bleeding, illness, medications, or other medical conditions that may or may not affect the procedure. This is to ensure that the extraction will not have complications.
